More stuff that doesn’t fit but read everything for one moment
Quick note to one comment I felt I should answer, but I blocked the user so I won’t see their reply.. but they said ”creators are aware”, and I say then why make things now if it’s not going to really work for everyone just yet? Maybe, people are doing it just for money, but for the people who REALLY care, you need to wait until the bugs/limits are worked-out or additional features are in place that enable a wider, more accessible level of functionality in Mesh, before releasing anything. Use that time to hone your skills. I think if anything, by using mesh right now, you are sending a message to the clueless Linden LaB people that you like it, embrace it and that’s about as far as I believe they will read into it. They put it aside and work on adding some new superficial viewer breaking feature, when really the way “mesh” (hate using this term, it’s so incorrect on a professional industry level) works in other applications, still isn’t fully realized as it is in other games that use a very similar feature in their games. So unless you want something from the community… and/or just want to work with the minimal flexibility mesh offers right now, you’re going to have to add a lot more sizes. I’ve been rigging models for nearly 2 decades, on much more complex models, as of now, currently needing to scale to user created body shapes, with a larger spectrum on variety (more so in the body sliders than the face) than anything in SL - and it’s not hard to make more than 3 sizes. Basically though if you use mesh now, you just send a message to the Lindens saying “nice job,” and they’ll move on to something new and useless.
Anyway the point of this entry - A store called Pixel Mode made some great mesh boots and various mesh dresses. A friend of mine who tries demos first sent me the pictures, but their avatar is too well-known for me to include here, and the whole location of the pictures was a bad spot too, so I’ll just write about it. The boots themselves are great, but the problem is placement (and size with the dresses). The boots are placed too far up on the lower leg. A proper fit would involve lowering them a bit. A good example of how to rig it right is look at the MiaMai boots or even the giant feet Adam & Eve boots, which are rigged right at least. It’s too bad the Pixel Mode (PM) boots are up too high. The alpha is additionally a bit too high up on the template. Needs to be redone.
As for the dresses. They added MANY sizes, which is great news, but unfortunately on the girls trying it in the store, it still had a BIG back-end and it wasn’t form-fitting here and there. I tried the demo myself and yes the small bust or even slim default were both just too big in the ass; the hips/waist area is slightly questionable too. The straps around the arms can’t really be helped but this creator made a lot of options, just none worked on anyone I saw. I think a few of the girls there were Japanese so they had smaller avatars but still fairly close to my avatar in size, which is a fairly average size, nothing too extreme. I think adding one smaller tighter, less fat-butt option would probably nail it for the majority of people trying it.
The boots just need to be re-rigged a bit lower. You can see on any avatar that tries them on, that there is a huge space under the feet, like you’re floating off the ground and the boot is up too high. The alpha wasn’t done low enough. Lower the boots, change out the alpha and those are perfect for the most part.
Again, you can ask me questions or say “fuck you” (which just makes me want to post more) but I am just here to point things out. I am not here to play blog chat. I don’t read my messages other than that one comment about the demo because I saw it a few times. Regardless of the demo being tried or not, that other skirt from VS is just not going to work for most people. Yes, try the demo, save yourself money. It won’t work for most of you at all.
I hope Pixel Mode adds more petite sizes and fixes the boots. It would than be a great purchase
